What Will Be Your Eulogy?

  

Death is never a news that we want to hear. It stirs in us feelings of fear and the finiteness of our existence. When we hear of someone we know has passed away, our thoughts are stirred towards how we related with them in the past. Also, on their passing away people share with each other what that person meant to them or played a role in their life. But some people’s passing away can bring back traumatic thoughts of how they almost destroyed you.

 

Eulogy is a speech given at a funeral saying good things about the person who has died. But what if the good that people speak is a lie.  Have you thought about this? You may be famous for your good works, or you were a powerful person so many knew you, but you had a side that was cruel and merciless that people will have to lie to say good things about you. That would be more tragic than death itself.

 

Jesus Christ is the only human being whose life and death spoke the same. His disciples died as martyrs, witnessing and speaking of His life, His death and resurrection. It was one seamless story where it wasn’t difficult for people to speak of all the miraculous healings and life flowing teachings He imparted when He lived on this earth. He taught us how to show compassion and how to condemn hypocrisy and wickedness. Jesus’ enemies were those who didn’t like Him speaking the truth and doing the right thing.

 

Is there something that we can learn from Jesus here? When He was human, Jesus taught us to live according to God’s purpose, that means holding on to Godly principles and values and never compromising even if it means you must face excruciating death. All of us want to live a life that pleases the world and the people, we never fear what we would do when we face God. The Bible says, “My flesh trembles for fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgment.” Psalm 119:120. We don’t use the life, the resources, the power given to us in a godly way, instead we use it as we wish, leaving a trail of destruction and cruelty. It’s good to give a serious thought of how your eulogy should be. Will it be a speech where even your enemies will be compelled to speak the truth or where your friends will end up speaking lies to make you look good, knowing full well who you really are? 

 

Wake up if you are in a deep sleep, living your life in your terms because there is a day all this will end and you will be standing before your creator giving account of every wicked deed and thought that you did to people, even worse to His children who were precious to Him. You may get accolades here from people while saying goodbye to you for good but fear what God will say about you, as it would mean the difference of hell or eternity. Surrender your life to Jesus and come out of your pretense. He is willing to accept you as you are because He first loved us. Turn from your evil ways that people here on earth and angels in Heaven will have the same thing to say about you. The truth, the real you.

I am not sure if the person just lied or spoke the truth!

I am not sure how many of you  struggled to find out if the person with whom you had been conversing spoke the truth or lied to you. Welcome to the world of deception and manipulation. Navigating a conversation where truth and falsehoods are blended can be mentally draining. Detecting deception is notoriously difficult, with human accuracy only slightly better than a coin flip (approx. 50%).

Lying isn’t just about hiding the truth — it’s about power. When someone lies and believes you won’t notice, they’re not just avoiding accountability, but placing themselves above you. They assume:

you lack awareness

you won’t trust your instincts

you’ll doubt yourself instead of them

Even if you find out, you are powerless to be a threat to them

In fact, that’s disrespect. People who lie often rely on a familiar mechanism: gaslighting, small distortions, half-truths, plausible stories. Not to convince you, but to confuse you enough to stay quiet. The moment you realize someone is lying and thinks you’re too naive to see it, trust is already gone. Mistakes can always be discussed. But arrogance disguised as manipulation is evil.

In the book “Telling Lies” Paul Ekman states, “LIES FAIL for many reasons. The victim of deceit may accidentally uncover the evidence… Someone else may betray the deceiver. An envious colleague, an abandoned spouse, a paid informer, all are major sources for the detection of deception... Deception clues or leakage may be shown in a change in the expression on the face, a movement of the body, an inflection to the voice, a swallowing in the throat, a very deep or shallow breath, long pauses between words, a slip of the tongue, a micro facial expression, a gestural slip... Some lies are performed beautifully; nothing in what the liar says or does betrays the lie. Why not always? There are two reasons, one that involves thinking and one that involves feeling.”

Liars somehow want to navigate their way through all odds. And they would never bring God into their life puzzle. The Bible consistently condemns lying, identifying it as contrary to God's nature and destructive to relationships. Scriptures warn that habitual liars face severe spiritual consequences, including exclusion from eternal life, and note that deception is fundamentally tied to evil and the Devil. The Lord explicitly hates a "lying tongue" and detests "lying lips". According to (Proverbs 16-16-19 Bible) a lying tongue is one of seven things God considers an abomination. Most importantly, lying is the result of the mess in the human heart. When one’s heart is messed up the person would use any means to make his/her way out. 

The God of the Bible emphasizes those who follow Christ to put away falsehoods, "speak the truth with their neighbor" (Ephesians 4:25 Bible), and pursue trustworthiness, as this is what delights the Lord (Proverbs 12:22 Bible). You may try certain discipline to choose not to speak lies, but it doesn’t guarantee you would remain that way always. But Jesus transforms every detrimental habit that can impact your soul when you ask forgiveness and repent from such habits. If you confess your sin and accept Him as a Savior of your life things would take a new turn altogether. Would you like to take a try?

Satisfaction is always temporary!

Alex Hormozi puts it beautifully, “You’ll never eat a meal so big you never need to eat again. You’ll never sleep so good you never need to sleep again. You’ll never accomplish so big, you’ll never dream again. There’s nothing wrong with you: satisfaction is always temporary.”.  All that is designed to meet our needs on this earth are temporary satisfying elements. We all wish to reach and attain the perfect satisfaction point but since this world and our existence on this earth are temporary, we cannot expect to reach complete satisfaction here in this earth. 

Putting faith in Christ Jesus alters the status of human longing, offering ultimate, eternal fulfillment that this temporary world cannot provide. While earthly pursuits yield only fleeting satisfaction, God promises a deeper, perfect rest for the soul, in Him. 

Jesus claims to be the Bread of life. In John 6:35 Bible, Jesus identifies Himself as the source of eternal nourishment. He promises that whoever comes to Him will never hunger or thirst. He referred to a relationship. Never once Jesus pointed to build a religion or a religious base. Jesus is unique in the way He was born, lived and died. A God who rose from the dead after being buried for three days. The historical events associated with Jesus are unmatchable, hence He never once found the need to compete with anyone. He is the son of God, and God Himself. Jesus’ resurrection changed the shape of history. The reason He lives makes His claims credible. 

True and right satisfaction brings peace. Satisfaction and peace are the matter of the heart, which is between a person and Christ Jesus. When you find Him, you find satisfaction and true peace. Peace is generally the outcome of being satisfied. When you are unsatisfied it messes with your peace. Jesus claimed “peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.”  He made a distinction here by stating, “I do not give as the world gives.” The world constantly keeps raising the bar for satisfying human hearts because every time it introduces something, it quickly becomes outdated. But when one finds Jesus the Savior and initiates a genuine relationship, he/she is completely satisfied. Psalm 16:11 in the Bible reminds that true, lasting pleasure and fulfillment are found in God's presence.

Finding Jesus and entering a genuine relationship with Him provides a deep, lasting satisfaction that worldly pursuits cannot offer. The relationship offers peace and grace that carry us through all circumstances, no matter how difficult our situation is.

Who are you today?

Our moods and emotions fluctuate with changing context, situations and happenings. The actual ‘you’ is invisible to people. Who you are today is what was shaped by the decisions made yesterday. All decisions are shaped by what is known as the Core 8 Human drives, a psychological framework often used to understand human motivation. It is classified under these broad areas: 

Relational Drives

The Drive to Bond: The innate desire to form connections, build relationships, and feel a sense of belonging with others.

The Drive to be Known: The need for others to recognize our true selves, validating our identity and presence in a social group.

Intellectual and Personal Growth Drives:

The Drive to Know: Often referred to as the "drive to learn" or "comprehend," this is fueled by curiosity and the desire to make sense of the world around us.

The Drive to Grow: The pursuit of self-improvement, skill mastery, and the realization of one's full potential. 

Achievement and Impact Drives

The Drive to Acquire: The impulse to obtain physical objects, as well as intangible status, power, and influence.

The Drive to Accomplish: The motivation to achieve specific goals, complete tasks, and feel a sense of mastery or "competence".

The Drive for Significance: The need to feel important, unique, or that one’s life and work have a meaningful impact on the world.

Survival and Stability Drives

The Drive for Safety: Also called the "drive to defend," this is the baseline need to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our property from harm.

Why is this important for you to know? Because then you will be able to dive beneath the surface of your problem to understand what is driving your behaviors. Drives are like appetites—they must be satisfied. Many people have chosen illegitimate and even illegal ways of satisfying these drives. In so doing they have formed uncontrollable and insatiable  habits, lusts, and addictions. When these drives are not brought under the Lordship of Christ, they will cause you to lose control of your soul and form unhealthy attachments to satisfy your longings. This is what happened to the prodigal son in the Bible. His drives were not bad; it was the way he attempted to satisfy them that led to his self-destructive behavior.

Mastery in your life starts with mastery of your thoughts, which is equivalent to self-discipline. If you don’t control what you think, you can’t control what you do and who you become. We have all heard of the phrase “mind over matter.” John Irving, a novelist and Academy Award–winning screenwriter, once wrote, “Your memory is a monster; you forget—it doesn’t. It simply files things away. It keeps things for you or hides things from you—and summons them to your recall with a will of its own.”

The Bible states, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” You do not need to be a product of your environment or imprisoned by circumstances. Self-discipline enables you to control your thoughts so that you control your destiny. 

God can perform psychological and emotional laser surgery with His Word. When you understand your sinful nature and ask for forgiveness Jesus will cleanse you and transform you. The Bible says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all our unrighteousness.”. May you be led by His spirit and reflect His nature. Remember, you are a child of God.

The freedom of letting people misunderstand you!

Do you catch yourself trying to explain to those who misunderstand you? It can be anyone in our circle of influence, and we become impulsive about this because we don’t want to be seen as cold, arrogant, or ungrateful. Misunderstanding looks like people wanting to maintain the story they’re committed to — about who you are, what role you play, how life works — they must filter you through their own projections. When you stop expending energy to constantly manage narratives, you free yourself from the exhausting need for external validation and claim your peace. People see us through their own experiences, insecurities, and expectations. Their opinions are often reflections of their inner world—not accurate summaries of who we are. And no amount of explaining can change how someone chooses to see you. Having said that, there are times we must explain ourselves especially to our loved ones, should there be a need when you are being wrongly misunderstood.

Jesus was frequently misunderstood by the public, religious leaders, and even His own inner circle of disciples. These misunderstandings usually occurred because people took His spiritual teachings literally, or because His mission clashed with their cultural and political expectations. Jesus was the fulfilment of all the prophecies told over 600 years ago. Jesus healed the sick; the lame walked, the blind saw, the deaf and mute spoke and could hear, lepers cleansed and healed and the dead were raised yet people misunderstood Him to be a political competitor, assuming He is going to build a new empire. People expected Jesus would use the same divine power to subdue nations, establish political headquarters and overthrow their opponent. But when Jesus the God of love was in the business of transforming lives, giving hope of another kingdom, which is life after death, it became difficult for His enemies to handle Him anymore. They were offended by Him. 

If you are following Christ, people will misunderstand you. There are names people attach to Christians as “rice-bag Christians” blaming early missionaries who helped the poor, needy, hungry and vulnerable to have dignity in the society. Today, there are many followers of Christ from the around the world who are persecuted and robbed of their rights to live. They don’t fight back; they either go on a silent protest or pray for the  persecutors. Consequently, they are once again misunderstood as weak minority and the ones who are following foreign religion. My dear friends don’t worry if people misunderstand you for being and doing good. It is not easy to suffice with many explanations to convince anyone. This world cannot handle truth, love and righteousness. But God who understands your motives and intentions will know who you are.  

In the story of Jesus when the Jews accused Him with all kinds of allegation and demanded the Roman government to torture and crucify Him, Jesus allowed them to misunderstand Him for the bigger picture to unravel. The Bible records when Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, all thought it was the end of the story except the Roman Centurion who after witnessing Jesus on the cross exclaimed, “Truly He is the son of God”. That was not all, after the third day Jesus rose from the grave, which took the entire history to a new level. The misunderstood God proved to the entire world that He has the power over life and death. My dear friends, I encourage you to not give up on your situation and explain yourself to people who misunderstand you. The resurrected Christ is the answer to your situation because He is the only one who understands you perfectly. Do you want to know Him more?

Spiraling Out of control!

The “solid foundation” we were dependent on in life suddenly gives away beneath us and crises hits us like a sudden tsunami. It can be in the form of finance, job, family, health or relationship. These crises may build gradually or hit us like a thunderbolt. We scramble to set things right within our preferred time frame whereas our emotions or grief take longer to settle than the speed in which we face our crises. We long for the crises to blow over at the earliest and we seek help from different quarters. At this point, God is also part of the option. We want the crisis to end and that too, to end now. Prayers go unanswered and we cry out “Why me?”.

These hard-pressed times also pose dried up resources and extremely limited options. Our desperate efforts become intense. Even worse the current crisis snowballs into new problems disorienting you and completely throwing you off guard with no relief in sight. Techniques like “breath in, breathe out”, “just don't look at the problem”, “relax”, “this too will pass away” – are unhelpful. We seek logical explanation by comparing ourselves to others and wondering “why I am suffering so much compared to many who seem to enjoy life?”. The question of "Why" becomes paramount. We soon start blaming everyone and everything including God. 

From a Christian perspective, losing control is a profound invitation to shift our focus from circumstances to God's character. Rather than striving in anxiety, believers are encouraged to practice active surrender, trust in God’s sovereignty, and anchor themselves in His promises. Given below are some practical ways to deal with your crisis:

  • The Bible calls us to shift focus from circumstances to sovereignty:

When everything feels out of control, it is easy to let anxiety spiral, but the Bible reminds believers that God is never surprised. He remains on the throne, and what feels like chaos is already under His authority. Acknowledging that you are not in control, but God is, removes the impossible burden of having to perfectly manage life.

  • The power of intentional surrender.

Rather than giving in to the urge to force outcomes, Christianity emphasizes yielding to God's plan. The Apostle Paul in the Bible gave a practical blueprint for this: instead of worrying, believers are instructed to take their anxieties to God in prayer with thanksgiving. This active release—often referred to as "casting your burdens"—hands the steering wheel back to the Creator.

  • Discovering the peace of Christ.

Biblical peace is not the absence of trouble, but rather the presence of Christ amid it. When life feels chaotic, God promises a peace that "transcends all understanding"—a supernatural calm that holds steady, regardless of whether your situation immediately changes.

  • Trusting the "Bigger Picture"

The promise in the Bible tells us that God works all things together for the good for those who love Him. Even when situations make no sense and seem devastating, we are encouraged to walk by faith rather than mere rational explanations.

Dear Friends, your hope will not be wasted if you learn to trust Jesus, commit to know Him and accept Him in your life not as a religion but as a relationship. Jesus is the true Messiah, because He encountered and came out victorious from the world's toughest problem - Death. 

The Bible states this as a biggest sacrifice for human beings. He died for our sins to offer forgiveness and freedom from all guilt and become the children of God. Jesus raised people from death during ministering to people and He rose from the dead. Whether your trouble and crisis were gradual or sudden, you will not be destroyed. You will live because of Christ. Jesus who claimed, “because I live you will live also."

Emotions don’t escape notice!

The booming digital revolution reads you like an open book with cameras capturing your every emotion. If you are a sport lover you would notice the genius display of different emotions of people watching from the stadium. There are systems that use real-time AI image capture and audio analysis to analyze audience and crowd moods, enabling live broadcasts to dynamically switch camera feeds to maximize emotional engagement.

Modern AI can scan faces, measure micro-expressions, and track bodily metrics to determine a person's exact psychological state. Mobile devices have built-in sensors to map dozens of facial points and interpret discrete emotions with up to 68.3% accuracy—often surpassing human ratings. There are even apps that utilize background smartphone cameras to monitor facial micro-expressions for subtle frowns or depressive states, translating them into mood maps. Technology can make us physically close but emotionally far. Social media highlights the external best moments but hides the internal mess of a person.

Sadly, in today’s digital age, emotions are a commodity. This leads to deep isolation, making many feel that their struggles are ignored or invalidated. There are many who silently struggle and face challenges which they cannot show nor share. They brilliantly hide it under a smile yet battling with the fact whether their struggles are even noticed by the world.

Cameras can fail to capture the pain a heart bears, but it does not escape its Creator, a God who sees everything. The cameras may not always capture the deep emotions hiding in the corner of the human heart, but Jesus who is a living God (as He was resurrected from the grave after three days) knows exactly the state of your heart and what you are going through. 

When this God incarnated on this earth, the Bible records that Jesus went about doing good. The lame, the blind, the deaf, and all kinds of sick people came to Him to be healed. It is recorded in the Bible, “At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.”.  There is also a situation recorded in the Bible where the whole crowd was pressing on Him to hear from Him and to be healed. In such a situation was a lady from the crowd with a unique health condition made her way in the crowd and touched Jesus’ garment and the Bible states she was healed instantaneously. As she was about to slip away, Jesus stopped and asked, “Who touched me?” It sounded funny because a huge crowd was already thronging Him. The story states, she was terrified, came before Jesus and confessed that she touched Him. Jesus sent her in peace. Nothing could stop God from capturing the attention of the single individual when they are in pain.

You will never go unnoticed! Here is a God who understands your pain and your situation. There is even an incident in the Bible where it talks about Lazarus who was dead and buried for four days. Jesus loved that family a lot. This is a story where Lazarus was raised alive from His grave after four days, by Jesus. But then when He saw Lazarus’ sisters, Martha and Mary sobbing, Jesus was troubled and it records, “Jesus Wept”. He is such a unique God not only because of His resurrection but also because if His ability to restore you. If our emotions can be predicted by mere man-made camera, how much more a God who knows your exact pain and struggle and is ever willing to restore you.

You don’t need to be busy to be valuable!

Today a busy person poses himself as valuable and worth more than someone who is quiet with less happening. Busyness is frequently treated as a status symbol rather than a reliable measure of true value or impact. Society has conditioned many people to tie their self-worth directly to their visible productivity, leading them to boast about packed schedules and constant motion to gain external approval. 

Research shows that toxic productivity culture has led 40% of workers to believe burnout comes with success. People’s unhealthy drive to stay productive affects their mental and physical health, personal relationships, and life quality.  Toxic productivity comes from an obsessive need to work constantly and accomplish tasks, whatever the cost to mental and physical health. Unlike healthy productivity that values balanced achievement and progress, toxic productivity comes from believing that your worth depends only on what you produce.

Our society sees busyness as a badge of honor instead of something potentially harmful. Studies show 61% of professionals think looking busy makes them appear more valuable. People often take on too much or talk about their packed schedules just to get others’ approval. This mindset becomes dangerous because it makes unhealthy work habits seem normal and pushes people to keep up an impossible pace.

The drive for productivity creates an odd situation. People work non-stop to feel accomplished but never feel satisfied — they just feel bad for not doing more. This pattern keeps repeating itself. It hurts both mind and body while making real fulfillment impossible.

You don’t need to be busy to be valuable. If you read the life history of Jesus, you would notice Jesus didn’t hustle to prove His worth- He moved slowly, intentionally, with peace. Your stillness isn’t wasted time. It’s sacred space. You’re still worthy even when you are not producing. 

What have we achieved more prior to few decades back when most of the thing was manual and conventional? Actually, not much.  We are forced to sacrifice so many things to make the ends meet. Life was peaceful then, people enjoyed quietness and better mental and emotional health compared to now. Today, we are working more, to earn more, to build better savings and have a big bank balance, just to find out that it has not helped much. We are constantly restless, that defines the age today. 

Ask God, Christ Jesus to bless you with quietness and rest. The Bible states, “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.” (Isaiah 30:15 Bible)  We keep pushing our edges as we are busy to sabotage our sanctity and sanity. While you ask Christ Jesus to help your shortcomings and repent from everything that hurts your body and soul you would find rest and salvation. I understand the demands of life is too much in our time, but you can reach unto God who invites us for rest.  The Bible emphasizes that in quietness and trust is our strength.” Busyness may look like you have gained great worth, but true strength is found in quietness. You are valuable because you are made in His (God’s) image, therefore you don’t need to struggle to prove your self-worth or try harder to make things happen. Christ Jesus has provided all that you require to sustain you in this life and life yet to come with abundance and joy. Try to know Him more personally, a God who is a resurrected savior.

The game of comparison!

The problem of man is not having a need or meeting the need but comparing oneself with someone. The compared standard may be high to achieve; hence he/she ends up murmuring and disappointed. We have no dearth of comparisons. We have neighbors, friends, social media, colleagues to make us feel inferior… Man today is not content.  

Contentment for people have always been measurement by material things as they are tangibles. A recent news recorded a man in India who came to Dr Sunny Garg consultant oncologist and complained suffering from severe insomnia and anxiety. He said, "Doctor, I think I'm very poor. I can't sleep at night.". He earns around $42,000 (Rs 40 Lakh a year) drives a BMW, lives comfortably, and still says he feels poor. Dr Sunny Garg described this phenomenon as a form of "modern poverty", not the absence of money, but the inability to feel satisfied because expectations rise faster than income. 

According to the doctor, the man's reference point has shifted dramatically over the years. Instead of comparing himself with people from his hometown or those with more traditional careers, he now measures his success against startup founders, entrepreneurs, and social media personalities who have accumulated wealth worth tens or even hundreds of crores at a young age.

"Statistically, he's in the top 1% of earners in India. Yet he feels poor. Why? Because his reference point has shifted. Earlier, he compared himself to the neighbor in his village whose son worked as a clerk. Now he compares himself to a 28-year-old on LinkedIn who sold a startup and is sitting on Rs 80 crore," the doctor explained. Comparison is a race with no finish line. No matter how much you earn, there will always be someone richer. Contentment is one of the things money cannot buy.

There is also another problem with people who earn sufficiently yet find themselves in debt because of EMIs (monthly installments). Sometimes expenses are more than the income flow. A big percentage of people are trapped debt ridden in this way. I urge you to plan your income with wisdom and discretion. 

Don’t forget to acknowledge that you are blessed with a life and are surviving when millions ceased to exist. If you are still breathing, you are privileged.  You may have all the money you need and still never be satisfied and live securely. Position, money and things are never meant to satisfy human lives because you are made with a soul. Man can never be content with worldly things or religious obligations. Man needs to find His Creator not the one whom he has created as god but the true Saviour of your soul.  

The Bible records one of the best prayers from Agur son of Jakeh from the book of Proverbs 30:8 (Bible) "Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread". Anxiety increases when you have too little or too much. When God is your portion, you can stay content. King David in the book of Psalms acknowledges, "Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup of blessing; you hold my future". Jesus is not an idea of God but God, who was resurrected from death and is alive, a fact that cannot be easily ignored. When you trust this Jesus, you will not be apprehensive and find a need to compare with someone whom you assume to be richer than you but can stay content because He promised to never leave you nor forsake you in any circumstance.

What do you fear losing?

Psychologically, the utmost fear of humans is losing loved ones to death or separation, followed closely by fear of losing health, control, financial security, and identity/cognitive ability. When you are in abundance, it builds your confidence, yet you can still be plagued by fear of losing it, subconsciously. It is completely natural to feel anxious about losing something you deeply value, whether it is a relationship, a skill, or a success you have worked hard to achieve. We start our life to acquire things starting from knowledge, skill, career, family and financial resource. Later, we strive to sustain them for our security. Surprisingly fear builds proportionally. 

Humans naturally cling to the things they love, forgetting that everything ultimately belongs to God. The fear arises when we mistakenly view gifts as our permanent possessions rather than blessings that are meant to be well stewarded. From a Christian perspective, the fear of losing things—whether material possessions, relationships, or status—stems from a fundamental human struggle between seeking earthly security and trusting in God’s provision. It is usually the misplaced security that leads to placing one's identity and sense of safety in temporary, worldly things instead of relying in the eternal unchanging nature of God. This can lead to anxiety and fear of loss.

Once we understand that we all would eventually cease to exist from this earth would shape our perspective about this present world and eternity. For all who understand the Christian worldview have a strong reason to believe that they will live for eternity as recorded in the Holy scripture, The Holy Bible. Frank Turek puts it beautifully when he says, “Christianity did not begin with a book, it began with an event, the resurrection.”. The resurrection of Jesus changed history. Christians believe this greatest event is the hope for current earthly existence and for future eternal life. Living with this eternal perspective will change your worldview and eradicate the fear of losing whatever concerns you. 

Christianity is not just a story, but about a God, Christ Jesus who incarnated to be human, walked amongst the people, did the natural and supernatural activities and gave the eternal perspective of life after death. People are sometimes stuck with a religion and with its rituals and duties that they no more understand God nor life better.  Erich Fromm states“when people can’t handle God anymore, they turn to religion.” We equal God to religion and end up being religious without knowing God. Recalling to memory that Jesus defeated death and returned to life, infuses each day of our life with glory, reshaping the familiar into signposts of the new creation. The resurrection doesn’t simply promise transformation in some distant future, rather it brings relevancy to the present, infusing the world we inhabit-here and now-with the eternal.

Only this strong verified eternal perspective can remove the fear of losing what you have. You are a child of God, loved by a resurrected living God. He cares for you and intends to bless you with confidence. You can right away do a small prayer and ask Christ to give you the hope and confidence in Him. You don’t have to live in fear anymore.

Knowing to be known!

 

Knowing and to be known by somebody whom you know are two different things. Knowing people may include icons and celebrities but they may be unaware of our existence. For example, we may know our country president, and privy to all the details of his/her life, but it’s not the same vice versa. The system does not demand that we require a personal relationship with the leader of the country to survive or receive benefits in a country. We will live and die as strangers.

In a religious structure, knowing God is to follow cumbersome rituals and duties. people usually approach religion to either please God, to find attention and receive favor and blessings which translates into having enough wealth, luxury and good health. However, the God of the Bible narrates a different yet unique perspective altogether. It claims that He knows each one of us by our name. The book of Isaiah 43:1 (Bible), where God says, "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine". Another well-known verse in the Bible about God's intimate, personal knowledge of us is Jeremiah 1:5 , which says, "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you…". A fascinating claim from a God who created the heavens and the earth. We cannot know and reach God by any amount of our good works. The fact we are known by God makes an ultimate difference.  Paul who was a contemporary in the time of Jesus states this, 'But now, since you know God, or rather have become known by God…' (Galatians 4:9 Bible). What a fascinating revelation and truth. The greatest purpose of human life is to know God and the greatest privilege of human existence is to be known by God. If we are convinced with this fact, then life changes dramatically and we are transformed to live with a renewed comfortable position. 

You don’t need to struggle to know people of influence for a decent existence. When you are known by the God of the universe, you already have a special favor. You don’t have to run from pillar to post to please people, draw their attention to find favor. Here is a God who claims to know you by your name, in fact, He knows you before you were formed in your mother’s womb. His name is Jesus, a God whose life, death and resurrection is miraculous and historical. A God with moral elegance and holds all power over nature, sickness and death. He is unique because He raised people from death and He was resurrected from the grave. He is therefore a risen savior. Isn’t that satisfying? If He knows you already, then you need to know Him personally. There are no rituals and duties attached. Just grab a Bible, specifically the New Testament, and start by reading the book of John where you find the human purpose and the privilege of being known by a God of the universe. This will also give an eternal perspective, a specific roadmap to eternal life with God. This is no religion attached to it, but a pure relationship.

I am ok you are not ok!

 

Talking about transactional analysis there are four premises founded by Dr Eric Berne which goes as follows; I am OK you are OK, I am OK you are not OK, I am not OK you are OK, I am not OK you are not OK. Somewhere we find ourselves in one premise or the another in our life in different situations. I would like to highlight the second premise "I am OK, you are not OK". This is an Arrogant/Aggressive position. This attitude is self-focused, where an individual blames others for their problems and view themselves as superior while devaluing the dignity of people around them. They keep judging everyone else other than themselves. They go to an extent of manipulating and tarnishing the image of others because they need to show they are OK and, in the right, when they are miserable in their thought and action. In this world this type of personality is labeled as Narcissist.

Narcissists always want to win and gratify themselves. Self-image is very important. You will see this in business/corporate sector where they want to put down others for their upliftment. If they cannot find fault at their work, they would character assassinate someone to shift attention away from them. This happens in families too. One family member strives to claim he/she is ok while other family members are not. When it comes to victimizing others, people usually lie to establish the foundation. They lie, including in the name of God. Deception is at large in all spectrums of human lives. There are cases when someone is wrong but people who think they are better than themselves are miserable. These people fail to accept the fact that others have changed for the better but keep tormenting the person attracting more condemnation on themselves.

Jesus lashed out the pharisee by saying, “You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”  You can judge and correct others provided you are not conceited by self-righteousness. Paul while writing the book of Romans states, "Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand." We all have our own personal agendas unknown to others and sometimes become arrogant to have an attitude which is known as “holier than thou art” attitude. The Bible states “God weighs the motives”. Therefore, no one can escape proving themselves right by condemning others. We all have a responsibility when it comes to correcting and helping someone who is struggling or who needs to be corrected without justifying oneself and condemning others. 

The Bible states in “Proverbs 20:23, which declare that using false scales is an "abomination" to God. “Differing scales are detestable to the Lord, and dishonest scales are unfair.”  God avenges all who love unfair scales to judge oneself lightly and others vehemently. You are accountable for every careless word you speak and shall give an account of yourself before God. Be fair, judge no one abruptly and help people. Christ demonstrated His love while we were yet sinners. Can we show some grace? We all need His grace in abundance, forgiveness from our sins and be transformed by Christ’s Love. You can know more about Him, because Jesus is different, a God who lives after His death.

576 megapixels!

The human eye has the incredible potentials of resolution of approximately 576 megapixels which is higher than most digital cameras, with a field view of around 180 degrees horizontally and 135 degrees vertically. It can track moving objects at a speed of 100 degrees per second and focus on an object as close as ten centimeters. It is a great gift of our Creator for sight.

Jesus went a step ahead and explained that "The eye is the lamp of the body" (Matthew 6:22Bible) which means our focus, perception, and spiritual outlook dictate our entire being. A healthy or "good" eye—focused on God and generosity—fills the life with light, while a bad or stingy eye leads to darkness and corruption, representing one's inner spiritual state and values. Located in the Sermon on the Mount, this passage highlights that true spiritual sight comes from devotion to God, rather than materialistic desires, which clouds perception and causes inner darkness. What your eye captures and processes is crucial.

The eyes serve as the entrance to the heart and mind; what we focus on (good or evil) shapes our inner life. A clear, focused eye indicates a generous heart, which fills the body with light, often tied to storing treasures in heaven rather than on earth. A diseased or bad eye indicates a stingy, envious, or greedy perspective, which leads to spiritual darkness.

What you want to see and don’t want to see depends on the state of your heart. If your heart is pure and holy all the parts of your body align with it including your eye. Today the digital world has opened spectacular view of what one wants to see and experience and that includes almost anything. For example, when it comes to food and beverage it is no more the matter of only satisfying the hunger and thirst. It goes beyond that. One wants to enjoy the novelty through an aesthetic sense that satisfies the eye first. 

Covetousness has destroyed great destinies and potentials of many young people. Beware of what your eyes see and your heart meditates on. Bring the whole of your senses under the control of the Spirit of God. The sight that dazzles sometimes holds the key to destruction. 

In the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible, the two things specifically highlighted that can never be satisfied are the eye with seeing and the ear with hearing. "The eye is not satisfied with seeing":This refers to the insatiable human desire for new sights, experiences, and visual pleasure. No matter how much a person sees, they always want to see more. Likewise, "the ear is not filled with hearing": This refers to the insatiable human desire for new information, news, music, or knowledge. The ear is never content with what it has already heard. These two examples are part of the broader theme in Ecclesiastes 1:8 Bible, which states that all human endeavors are full of a weariness that words cannot fully describe, because worldly pleasures and pursuits can never ultimately satisfy the human soul.

The Christian song writer “Open the eyes of my heart lord” expresses the yearning to see God through the lens of the human heart. Jesus can satisfy your heart and soul when you get to know Him through the Bible. Jesus who has resurrected from the dead is longing to fill your heart and mind with joy incomprehensible. Love Misinterpreted!

Do you realise in today’s world the general understanding of love is limited to gratification, infatuation, lust, transaction, sympathy, ritual etc.? Unfortunately, love has become the most misunderstood word. In a family relationship, love is usually translated to responsibility, obligation, doing the daily chores and submissiveness. Likewise in every relationship it has filtered thin to either obligation or transaction.

Greeks recognized several distinct types of love, and while they had many terms, these four are the most commonly cited fundamental categories. They distinguished between these types rather than using one generic word.

Storge - Familial Love 

Instinctive, natural affection, typically between parents and children, or family members.

Philia/Phileo - Friendship Love 

Affectionate friendship or brotherly love, often between equals.

Eros - Romantic/Passionate Love

Passionate longing, desire, or intense physical attraction.

Agape - Unconditional/Sacrificial Love 

The highest form of love—selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional love. 

Amazing categorization, isn’t it?  Let me provide the excerpt from the Bible in 1 Corinthians 13: 3-8 where love is beautifully described. 

“If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…” 

Love is always non-transactional. In spiritual realm, prayer is the expression of love, not otherwise. In today’s world where prayer feels like obligation or performative, Christianity’s original model was surprisingly simple: Prayer was never meant to impress. It was meant to connect; a relationship between father and child, in other words it is a result of love. Nick Hinton puts it so beautifully, “God is not strict as we think. We have it all backwards. All the fasting, prostrations and prayers aren’t necessarily getting us closer to God. They are byproduct of loving Him and wanting to spend all our time with Him. If they are not done out of love, they are vain.”

Today, everything is brought down to performance and self-gratification. Even religious obligations sometimes are so burdensome. Most of the time it is about fulfilling and trying to complete the task. Love is not in the puzzle at all. Your good works, duties can still be done devoid of love. 

You need a God who is not only powerful but an expression of love. Jesus’s powerful statement which says, “There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends.” John 15:13 Bible. In the story of Jesus, He never regulated laws, obligation and performance but emphasized on love. Jesus demonstrated it by His greatest sacrifice for the sins of mankind and made a way to reach God. 

Good deeds are not atonement for sin before a holy God. Scripture says even our righteous acts fall short (Isaiah 64:6 Bible). We do not need a better list of actions. We need a Savior. Jesus Christ did what no act of charity ever could. He bore sin, satisfied God’s justice, and offers forgiveness by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9 Bible). In the Bible it is beautifully narrated about Christ love, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8 Bible) And then in the same book of Romans 5:5 it states, “…God’s love has been poured out into our hearts.”.
