Life Audit 2018

We are almost close to the end of 2018 and I am not sure if it has been significant to us in anyway. Let me ask you, what if someone has to audit your life? Would you come out clean or you expect many concerns and regrets? A time to retrospect!

What was your ultimate goal in the year 2018? Was it only making money by any means or living beyond that? Were you able to contribute positive energy, happiness and genuineness to your family, loved ones and society or you were too busy lost in the selfish pursuit of finding pleasures from all wrong sources and living with guilt?

Shiv Khera in his book 'You Can Win' says, "What you do affects me and what I do affects you. We are connected. We have to realize that we are sharing this planet and we must learn to behave responsibly.". Does it make sense? This is a great truth we fail to understand. Most often we wish to think from only a selfish point of view and deny to be accountable to anyone. At the close of the financial year we all manage to audit our books of accounts and submit a report. Ever wondered we are God's creation and God has put us on planet earth to be useful and at the end accountable too, to our creator?

“Most people, most of the time, have something which hangs heavy on their hearts, something they have done or said which they wish they hadn’t, something which haunts them and makes them afraid of being found out.”.says Bishop Tom Wright. Usually at the end we only have two things to say. Zig Ziglar (the leadership giant) in his book ‘See You In The Top’ puts it this way, "Wish I had or glad I did.".

It gives immense satisfaction when we live our life right. Living a life worth and right needs access to God who created you and placed you where you are and who is readily available to offer salvation from all your wrongdoing and guilt, so that you can add value to your family, community and the nation.  Check this video and more resource from the link given below.

Wishing you a blessed New Year 2019 in advance.

JINGLE BELLS ALL THE WAY

With Christmas and New year round the corner, people all around the world are in the mood of celebration. Sweet treats of different kinds take top priority. In fact, cakes made with alcohol are in high demand. Pubs and discotheques are packed during this period of time. New year party celebrations elevate the spirits of the people with enticing cocktails and foot tapping musical extravaganza.

Does this define what Christmas eve and New year eve is all about? If you notice people just need reason to celebrate, to fill their hearts with all kinds of pleasures and be sated in the false sense of reality sometimes. It is reported that during Christmas night and New year night, the accident rates are pretty high, as people are overpowered with the effect of alcohol.

Definitely this doesn't define this season. It is not fair to define a religion by the abuse but should be valued by its essence. Christians have historically believed and demonstrated that their central conviction are philosophically sustainable, historically verifiable, evidentially testable, scientifically reconcilable, existentially experimental and practically applicable. How much we are familiar with the literature of the subject? We are generally inclined to any belief system conceptualized by someone who is popular and is lavishly wealthy. But have you ever taken the effort to find the truth? I strongly recommend that we find truth and get clarity in the origin and seek God to give the joy and peace that is worth sharing with all.

Somebody put this beautifully.

Wikipedia defines Christmas this way "to give up one's very self — to think only of others — how to bring the greatest happiness to others — that is the true meaning of Christmas.”. For many, the Christmas season is a sad time due to loneliness, loss of a loved one, family conflict, and other heartbreaking issues. What would you say to encourage those  experiencing pain this time of the year?  Share the love and peace of God with people who are longing for the it and that will fill your heart with satisfaction and content. Find the Savior and be transformed.  Let's make this a better place to live with joy and harmony.

Santa Claus Funda!

With the advent of winter setting in and the climate getting pleasant, people choose to engage in different relaxing activities with the loved ones. Most of the people if you notice also prefer to go for vacations during this time of the year and chill out with their near and dear ones. Also, in most part of the world in some culture, children anticipate this moment where they receive and exchange gifts during the Christmas season and widely believed to have received it  from Santa Claus.

People understand Santa Claus to be the main protagonist of Christmas and revolve their belief system around it, which is completely contradictory to the actual fact. In real life if you notice, always the counterfeit (unreal, fake) takes the precedence and draws the attention of the people, be it in any case.

Although Santa Claus is a mythical figure, his creation is based in part on a great Christian man named Saint Nicholas of Myra, who lived in the 4th century. Nicholas was born to Christian parents who left him an inheritance when they died, which he distributed to the poor. He became a priest at a young age and was well-known for his compassion and generosity. He had a reputation for giving gifts anonymously, and he would throw bags of money into people's homes (and sometimes down their chimneys) under the cover of night to avoid being spotted.

Christmas is the celebration of Jesus whose birth, salvation to mankind through crucifixion and resurrection was predicted in history thousands of years before ruling out any possible myths existing around it.

Let's take all effort to ensure facts for  any matter does not turn murky because of unverified opinions and assumptions. May our hearts be filled with joy in this season as we take stock of everything and with the help of God be a transformed better version of who we are.

Fair game please!

A difficult topic to discuss about. Anytime there is a demand or requirement for honesty, integrity, compassion, altruism, faithfulness and other value-based trait, then the immediate reaction is to move out from such zone or not talk about it. People generally categorize these values under moral science category and  think it has to be learnt during  school days only. Moreover, people assume they have got enough from their parents and elders too, in the form of lectures while they were frustrated and it has no implication  while dealing in real life whatsoever. Am I right?

Shiv Khera in his book ‘You can win’ emphasizes on value education; “Education that builds fundamental traits of character--such as honesty, compassion, courage, persistence and responsibility--is absolutely essential. We don't need more academic education; we need more values education. I would stress that a person who is morally educated will be a lot better equipped to move up in life or succeed than a morally bankrupt person with excellent academic qualifications.”.  It is unfortunate to live in a world and a society where we need to be constantly vigilant in order not to be cheated

If you want to buy a product you need to already have a good amount of knowledge of its features and price in the market or you end up being cheated with sub-standard product and shelling out exorbitant price for it. Actually, if you notice, it is just not possible to be aware of everything all the time and during such situation we want to take the help of “TRUST”, which works well sometimes but  at several cases we get dumped too.

Sometimes people go to an extent of even taking the name of God to swear in order to make you and me believe that everything they do is fair and yet cheat us brazenly. There are also people with whom we are familiar who are waiting to take a better advantage of us.

Personal corruption overshadows in all the spectrum of our life. This is the real cancer that can spread from us to our children and they learn to survive this way in an even professional way. Can we take the initiative to apply the values that are connected to God to become our lifestyle? Your prayers and commitment to a real God will make you a better person and help all of us to live in a better place. Think about it!

When counterfeit looks real!

We have moved to an era where the virtual world is trying to replace the reality in all aspects. We are almost there. The inventions of smartphones, smart robots have done a great job contributing towards the substitutions. A decade ago, playing outdoor games, like soccer, cricket, cycling etc. was fun, energizing and satisfying. We were physically fit, agile and connected.

Now with SMARTPHONE in our hands, majority of our children including adults still play outdoor games but not anymore on the fields but as indoor games on their smart phones. We are depleting physically and emotionally but have never given a serious thought about it. We are proud to use and give the smartest and most expensive phones to our children while they are toddlers.

Technology is getting more and more successful in eliminating the human companionship with gadgets, especially with smart phones and robots. We are soon becoming a victim of virtual world and staying alone and pushed into isolation. We respect and value the virtual time more than people. Since we believe we live in a time with high corruption in every arena therefore we feel secure to eliminate people from our lives. When we want, we use people like things, most often from our vantage point only. I do strongly believe technology and smartphones have made life easier but definitely not successful in building stronger and healthier community.

The inventions of robots replacing and substituting human lives is gaining full attention. Relationships are substituted, because there isn't a demand for commitment and the power of evil works best in this context. Recent trend is where people are looking for an opportunity to buy robots and have it as their fiancee or wife. They are able to trust and be intimate with it physically and emotionally than real lives.  A toy will not have a sense of morality or a sense of right and wrong, unlike the amazing creation of God - the human being.

We live in an age where we have power to design and make technology that suits our ego and budget. Now, the technology is playing its game to eliminate human being from every dimension. We set standards to God and make him comply to our whims and fancies, which is a scary prospect indeed.  Check this brilliant quote, “I do not want a God who is only right when I am right, but I want a God who is right even when I am wrong.”.

Is life a matter of Fate or Faith?

Based on the creation story recorded in History, carefully analyzed and scrutinized by science, anthropology, Metaphysics, quantum physics and other field of study, we are believed to be created in the likeness of God with a divine significant character like emotions, love, intellect and free will. Unlike animal kingdom that operates based on instinct we operate by emotions, instinct and intellect. When human being yields to instinct alone, we then witness heinous crime like brutal rapes, murder, embezzlement, etc.

The power to choose is what sets us apart from all other creations, and that is a lot of power we have been given when we really think about it.  I hear this general saying from people which says. “Whatever will be, will be.”. Have you ever heard this statement too? If we look deeper into that statement, it is actually scary to think that whatever happens in life was meant to be, but unfortunately that is the formula of the world we live in. But I beg to differ that if this belief system is true, then what is the reason for prayer, medication, fasting, or even going to any religious places? If our lives were meant to be lived with this predestined path of unfortunate and tragic events with a few happy moments in between, then why would we even need to believe there is supernatural power who we call God. Think about it.

Fate is defined as something that unavoidably befalls a person or that which is inevitably predetermined: destiny. With this definition it gives the idea that if someone has a wonderful end to their destiny, it will happen to them no matter what and nothing they do can change it. This sounds great but on the flip side, if someone has a bad end to their destiny there is also nothing, they can do to change it. This belief system sounds very flawed and very unfair.

We live by faith in God which translates to trust one another and live by hope, good works and accepting the salvation from God in order to enjoy the abundant life from Him and to enjoy the fellowship of our families, friends and with all others for perfect harmony and satisfaction. Nothing is a matter of mere chance.

IQ (Intelligent Quotient) verses SQ (Spiritual Quotient).

One thing that we all witness in our time is the knowledge boom. It is just incomprehensible compared to two decades or earlier. It is a challenge for people who exist before this time to cope up with so many areas where it demands high IQ (Intelligent quotient), EQ (Emotional Quotient) and most importantly, TQ (Technology Quotient). We explore the frontier of the information revolution: The Hybrid Age. The Hybrid age is the transition period between the information Age and the moment of singularity (When machines surpass human intelligence) the inventor Ray Kurzweil, author of the Singularity is Near, estimates we may reach by 2040 (perhaps sooner)

Each of us are expected to better adapt TQ to a future in which robots are going to be the normal social actors in our lives, healthcare becomes a vehicle for physical enhancement, academic descendants’ dissolves in a global skills market, and virtual currencies are expected to enable tax-free transactions.

All the innovation and revolution if you notice is not central to addressing human problems it is only creating more and more panic and uncertainties of survival. Huge masses of people are thrown out from all sectors, may it be IT field, banks or multi-national companies. They don’t need you anymore. Why would they, when technology is able to replace the work of big number of people. More and more people are becoming incompatible for this period of time.

Having said all this, I want to introduce SQ (Spiritual quotient) to you. Do you have an eye for the spiritual? When you look at the world, do you see only space and time, mass and energy, logic and reason? Or do you also see connectivity and design, purpose and meaning, faith and mystery? Indeed, in many ways, our Spiritual Quotient is shaping up to be more important than even our Intelligence Quotient. Our devoutness to God appears to be a fairly reliable interpreter of how well we’ll do, not just in school or the job market, but in life as a whole, which ultimately is what matters most.

Ohio State University psychologist Robert Arkin states: “The cycle of materialistic pursuits is disappointing and exhausting in the long run and can make people perpetually unhappy.” To counter this most of us confine to spiritual disciplines and follow rituals by worshiping money, prosperity, creation items as God. Think about it, and commit yourself to a God who is worthy to sustain peace and cohesiveness.

Are you a branded product?

You Are Not a BrandYou Are a Person.

We live in an age where brand matters a lot and majority of us are familiar with all major brands in the market. I know we are all aware that there are countless online markets and they are at our finger tips today. The uniqueness about it is, that it identifies and remembers your choice while you browse and the next time when you look for a product it displays the product of your choice including the brand.

What people have done is that they have taken the marketing side of it and applied to people. They think you are a product or service. In today’s job environment the competition is so high, they suggest that you reorganize yourself for today’s environment. You are in a pressure to brand yourself and target your life with effectiveness in order to achieve your career and sell yourself.

Let me ask you, are you just a product or a service? You are much more than that, you are a person. May be the market reduced you to skills and talent but you are deeper than that. The image and brand stuff are very temporary, it is good for career development but it is not good for character. If you are reduced to a product and services that diminishes your person-hood, if it reduces you to skills or talents that diminishes your uniqueness.

God says “you are His masterpiece”. Be a person of value to you, to others and most importantly to God. This will give you the ultimate joy and satisfaction of being a good person and being useful.

Your personal brand should represent the value you are able to consistently deliver to those whom you are serving. Managing your personal brand requires you to be a great role model, mentor, and / or a voice that others can depend upon.

"More Please"

‘More Please’ is the title of the autobiography of Dame Edna Everage, a character created and performed by Australian comedian Barry Humphries. He writes that these two words, ‘More please’, were his first intelligible utterance.

He went on to say, ‘I have always wanted more. I never had enough milk or money or socks or sex or holidays or first editions or solitude or gramophone records or free meals or real friends or guiltless pleasure or neckties or applause or unquestioning love. Of course, I have always had more than my share of most of these commodities but it always left me with a vague feeling of unfulfillment: where was the rest?

Greed has many faces, but speaks one language: the language of more. Epicurus noted, “Nothing is enough for the man to whom" enough is too little.”. In the name of pleasure and relaxation people try alcohol, cigars, usage of substance, finding intimate pleasures in all wrong places. People can become pleasure addicts – always seeking the next fix. But these experiences of pleasure come and go. The wrong sources of finding MORE of any kind can only lead to acts that are detrimental to oneself and others as time passes.

Let us not confuse pleasure with contentment and joy, nor try replacing the same. ‘Contentment’ is a longer term – being satisfied with your life, your home, your job and your relationships. But there is another kind of happiness that we call ‘Joy’. It is not a fleeting emotion, but a deep way of being – a state of mind that is available to everybody. It is not found in things, but in a Person.

Seeking pleasure for ourselves will always leave us with ‘a vague feeling of unfulfillment’. If you notice, it is mostly the spiritual vacuum that we try to replace with more stuff and wrong pleasures. Note, your quest for MORE can only end when you find God the savior. The peace  of God can fill our hearts and our family with joy and contentment which cannot be substituted.  Scripture says, "True godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.".

Success Funda!

I am often curious to understand how success manifests itself and the general perspective of people towards the same. Let me ask you first, who doesn't intend to be successful on this earth? Everybody wants to be on the higher ranks of the society at some point of time in their life, right? The definitions of success around the globe is ambiguous. Most of the people would vote for excess wealth and having high purchasing power, some to attain celebrity status, for some it can mean pleasures to keep their hearts excited with wine and women and of course there are also people who think success is helping the marginal sector of our society.

In general, people want to measure success with PMF index. That defines as to what extent one has PowerMoney and Fame and I wish to add one more to it, i.e. Fan club. Have you ever studied the life of a celebrity? Their movements are restricted unlike a common person, they fear security issues, their lives are in constant threat of the mob. They are not free people and I would call this is as success with limited freedom.

“Success” does not have a saturation point, Have you thought about it? If it does then why would one who is involved in crimes, making obscene amounts of money and wealth still keep cheating until he/she is caught and later become fugitives fearing for their life.

People keep pushing the bar to ascend to the point of infinity and vanity. Psychologists call it the Success Spiral Syndrome. The Bible warns people by saying “watch out be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of his possessions.”. Success in true essence is in knowing God and the purpose of one’s life. This is established when someone is able to develop a close relationship with God and live a guilt free life. Find a Savior who does both and transform you into a successful person in His terms. A true genuine relationship with God should also be able to transform us to live a worthful life to oneself and to others.

Premediated crime - Legal language

The newer and horrendous ways of sophisticated crime these days hit the headlines. If you notice, our emotions have familiarized with the usual kind of news like accidents, bank robbery, rapes, shooting at school etc. We have come to a point that it doesn't bother us anymore. In fact, it takes a bigger destruction, more gruesome, loss of lives in large numbers to move our emotions to sympathy. People are finding most bizarre ways to eradicate mankind by destroying lives and leave the places haunted.

The law enforcement department and judiciary system keep introducing variety of expertise, to tackle the 21st century crimes yet the results are not too significant. It's not the law system always to be blamed, the people who value oneself above others stands as a major concern.

In Judiciary system there is this a term called 'Premeditated crime'. This means that a particular individual before a heinous act runs the details of the crime in his mind well in advance and then later at his/her convenient scheduled time, performs the actual crime. So, where did it all begin? In the hidden mind where one keeps his pleasure and priorities at a higher realm and executes at the cost of butchering others rights and lives.

The lonely mind wanders crazily to satisfy one’s desire and later justify as sacred by putting either God, or religion into it. How does one tackle this and also keep the mind sane and hearts pure? We are all aware of the variety of therapies found; like meditation, relaxation, laughter, living in solitude, chanting and many more that promises to deliver from one’s clutches and set the mind free. It does divert the concentration for a little season but does not have the power to deliver completely.

What is needed is a transformation of one’s mind and heart to make it sensitive to the love of God and respect and value others as they love themselves. In the holy scriptures it says “Out of people’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immoralities, thefts, murders, adulteries, greed, evil actions, deceit, envy, foolishness, all these evil things come from within and defile a person.”. This means you need a savior who can forgive you and liberate you from all such evils and make you a better citizen, spouse, parent, child, neighbor etc. Prayer is talking to God. He will liberate you and help you for sure.

Wrong doing in Childhood becomes right in adulthood- Strange?

Have you ever wondered why your parents were disciplining you on all your wrongdoings and you were watched and monitored constantly?  You were not allowed to smoke, booze, use substance, gamble, have fun with opposite sex, watch pornography, flirt, cheat and be dishonest. All this was considered as crime. Either our parents were dumb and stupid to the core restricting us from having fun or they valued the right things and thought such ill habits will have a detrimental effect on us.

Now consider this, while one transitions from childhood to adulthood and once independence and power of money is gained, all the above that was referred and viewed as wrong by the parents are now at their choice to pick any habits and usually such people end up justifying or living a double life.

This cycle keeps moving and people never take it seriously. While one has picked up wrong habits and live at their terms with no moral framework, they ensure their spouses or children doesn’t exhibit the same. It doesn’t work that way, Psychologist say most of the behaviors are learned behavior and people around them are influenced by the same. You don’t want your children or loved ones to be learning something that can have a serious effect on them or in their family, do you?

You can  get over this predicament only with the help of God and not religion. Have you ever wondered that the problem with religion and morality is that it never gives you the power you are supposed to do? Think about it. Some think religion and devotion to God is a set of rules, rituals, practices and training, but it is not. It is about relationship with God. The challenges with all of these kinds of training is that it attempts, Reformation before Transformation.

In Bible it says "If I do what I do not want, I am no longer the one that does it, but it is the sin that lives in me”. There is good news, you can be delivered from such ill behaviors, moral failures or addictions only through the help of God, a God with no contradiction and who displayed perfect model life, only He can transform you to be a better person. You can only receive help from God who has a power to deliver you and me from the wretchedness of sin and all negative habits. Speak to Him through Prayer to transform you to be a better person.

Knocking of all boundaries

How much would you appreciate to live in a society or a country where the truth and moral law is relative? (meaning one can do according to what he feels right). Some of the people think it would be great if there are no moral boundaries and in general if his/her views and actions wouldn't result in any serious consequences - a life designed by his/her own to suit and justify ones choices. A world of ambiguity or no moral framework is just unlivable.

The rich, the powerful, the famous and in some cases the parents who have the power of luxury are already modelling it and sadly pushing the children to jeopardy.

I am sure all are aware of the recent news in India on the striking down of section 497 IPC which translates, “Adultery is no longer a crime in India though it can be grounds for divorce” is welcomed in some cases, condemned in other the mixed responses debated all over. This means you can live your own life however you want and likewise your wife can by her choice and each of us don't have to be accountable anymore. Click  the news link below for further reference:

Once one begins to realize that morality is not relative, that it cannot be grounded in biological evolution, and that it cannot be fully explained on the basis of social conventions or individual taste, one immediately feels drawn to the conclusion that God must exist.

You don't have to be of any particular religion to know the moral law and be able to distinguish between right and wrong. God has already woven it in your heart. It is only when we try to shift and push the boundaries in order to satisfy our selfish desires at the cost of our loved ones and friends.

To understand it and lead a holy life with integrity, we should have access to a God who is not similar to us, but is supreme than us, infinite and who modeled a holy life more than just being a good person. When we connect to Him the savior of our souls, He would transform us to be a better person. C S Lewis says, "You are a soul and you are given a body", you cannot afford to barter your soul for cheap stuff and regret all your life. It is said in the Bible "For what does it benefit someone to gain the whole world and yet lose his life?" Think about it.

Are you influenced by gods?

India is known for its rich culture and religious identity. You would admit with me that our devotion to God comes in many forms, packaged into innumerable deities, god's and religions. There are countless religious festivals, ceremonies and rituals that one can get lost in its myriad. Glorifying each of these festivals by splurging money has become a trend in recent times.

It will not be fair to categorize a person or the country as religious on the basis of how lavishly they set up a devotion room in one’s house, society or in the city. Recently, it was cited that a saree for goddess Durga worth 22 kg of gold was prepared in Kolkata. Does that mean Kolkata supersedes as number one religious state? Not a fair argument, right? Let’s together analyze if our devotion to God is transforming us as a person with divine values or whether religion and life are two different sides of a coin altogether.

It is said that there are 4 to 5 million sadhus (there are naked digambara, or "sky-clad" sadhus who wear their hair in thick dreadlocks called jata) and sadvis. Some of them are revered and worshiped even after their death. There are incidents where people have placed them in the position of gods later to their utter bewilderment, only to be revealed how negative and harmful they were to the society.

Predominantly, we want religion to make us happy. Our complacent attitude takes the better of us by giving cash offerings and gold offerings in some cases to Temples, Mosques, Churches and other places of worship without really taking an effort to be a transformed person. Check this informational video which is there for a long-time asking people to stop donating money to religious places;  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZFEpy5CByI&t=25s

Even the supreme Court in India has ordered massive judicial scrutiny and do an audit of all religious shrines because of the misuse in many cases.  Check this short video:
https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/videos/news/sc-orders-massive-judicial-scrutiny-of-all-religious-shrines/videoshow/65513061.cms

A true God is an embodiment of love, who transforms us from our wretched sinful state of addiction of any kind and restore us to a nice human being. Our devotion to God should be able to transform us to be a better person with divine nature from whom love, peace and joy is continually transmitted.  He invites us to join Him in crafting an abundant and joy-filled life.  Transformed life by God incites us to save the society being affected by any social evil.
Check the work of Sudha Varghese, a social activist whose devotion to God and her commitment has transformed the society.
