Why do we worry most of the time?

For the simple reason we are human, fragile and limited. We also worry because we want to solve future problems, prepare for threats, or gain a sense of control, but it often becomes a habit driven by fear of the unknown, a need to be responsible, or even a misguided belief that worrying prevents bad things from happening. It's a natural protective mechanism that signals potential danger, but it can spiral into excessive, unproductive thinking about what might go wrong, rather than focusing on what can be done. 

Scott Saul states, ‘we have imaginations, which is a gift that allows us to plan, to dream, to create. But imagination also lets us rehearse disasters that haven’t yet happened and may actually never happen. We can author multiple futures in our minds, many of them catastrophic. Worry is often just our imagination running away from us, dragging our hearts into places we’ve never actually been and may never actually go in real life.’

Jesus very often addressed anxiousness. He says, “Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble “(Matthew 6:34). He doesn’t say this because our worries never materialize; they often do. He says this because worry removes God from the picture. It is unbelief hidden in the form of precaution.

 

C.S. Lewis understood this better than most. In his book ‘The Screwtape Letters’, the senior demon Screwtape instructs his apprentice on the best way to lure humans away from God: “It is far better to make them live in the Future. Biological necessity makes all their passions point in that direction already, so that thought about the Future inflames hope and fear. Also, it is unknown to them, so that in making them think about it we make them think of unrealities. In a word, the Future is, of all things, the thing least like eternity. It is the most completely temporal part of time—for the Past is frozen and no longer flows, and the Present is all lit up with eternal rays... Hence nearly all vices are rooted in the future. Gratitude looks to the past and love to the present; fear, avarice, lust, and ambition look ahead.”

Lewis saw what Jesus wants us all to see: when we camp out in the future, we live in unreality. The future is not here yet. It may never be what we imagine it will be. And in fixating on it, we abandon the one place where God actually does meet us: right now, in the present. I keep emphasizing that each of us are strategically positioned to fulfil the sovereign purpose of God. Jesus promised never to leave us nor forsake us. If only we can learn to know who He is and the promise of His spirit in our hearts, our fears will be evicted. 

You don’t need to rush out of your pain to be okay. Jesus doesn’t need you to recover quickly - He just wants you to recover honestly. Slow healing is still holy.

Being Nice!

You would notice people quote C.S. Lewis often to describe the depravity of man.  Lewis predicted and stated that the modern obsession with “being nice” destroys the soul. In his book, ‘The Abolition of Man’, Lewis argues that when a society stops believing in objective virtue, it doesn’t become tolerant… it becomes manipulable. He calls the result “men without chests.” People with appetites and intellects, but no courage, no honor, no trained moral instincts. They can calculate everything and defend nothing. Lewis saw that once we reject inherited moral law, we don’t become free, we become raw material… easily shaped by propaganda, pleasure, and fear.

Modern man prides himself on compassion while quietly surrendering every standard that once gave compassion meaning. Lewis’s insight is brutal: “a civilization that educates clever cowards will eventually be ruled by tyrants or technicians.” The Bible sums up appropriately on the nature of man in this way,

“There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.” “Their throat is an open [d]tomb; With their tongues they have practiced deceit”; “The poison of asps is under their lips”; “Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.” “Their feet are swift to shed blood; Destruction and misery are in their ways; And the way of peace they have not known.” “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Romans 3:11-18.

If you notice keenly, you will find that this fallen condition of human being is what we see and relate in our day-to-day life. Man, constantly and spontaneously gives himself to the evil. People try to make their own good and live it to be marketable and profitable. Sadly, it ends in self-contentment and religious sufficiency.

The outright evil that surges like a continuous wave result in the purpose of human being marred with greed and pleasure, so much so that he finds nothing worth living or dying for. When nothing is worth living or dying for, everything becomes negotiable… including human dignity. The purpose of life blurs due to the inward depravity of human soul. How do we reconcile and find redemption to our soul?

Just being nice is not the solution. Sometimes people  try to be nice to find their place in family, among friends in the society and workplace for their survival and benefit. John Henry Newman with possibly the most devastating line about the spiritual life ever written: “The aim of most men esteemed conscientious and religious, or who are what is called honourable, upright men, is, to all appearance, not how to please God, but how to please themselves without displeasing Him.”

This cannot redeem human soul. For our life to be completely rescued and transformed, we need to encounter the true Savior who made provision for man’s sin and who has the capacity to transform lives. The sinful condition of a human being needs a divine solution which we can find in Christ.  His holy life, death and resurrection give meaning and purpose to life beyond mere human niceness.

New Beginning with no end!

The first day and last day is a full circle in an individual’s life. We love beginnings. The beginning of a month is encouraging for the employed as one receives their salary, the beginning of school/college life, a new venture, a new job are all exciting phases in life. However, the last day of anything in life brings in varied emotions ranging from nostalgia to disappointment depending on the situation. In a year 1^stJanuary and 31^st December are a repetitive cycle. How we plan to begin it and finish the year is something to ponder on. Theoretically sound advice and mental models can help but facing situations practically can be so different. Beginning well and keeping the right momentum can lead a person to finish well. We live once on this earth, but this is not the end. According to the Biblical perspective the end for us in this world is a new beginning in the godly realm.

Biblical explanation is the most satisfying and logically compatible worldview. Since it is not a mythical tale, history, science and archeology find the best possible explanation in the matter of creation, purpose of existence, matter of morality, matter of life and death, and afterlife. Your beginning, I mean your birth, is a miracle and then you don’t die to be reborn as another creature. This is a reason the Bible states that we are God’s masterpiece. As God’s masterpiece humans are made in His image as described in the creation story. Therefore​, how you plan your beginning for a better end, ​and a new beginning for eternal existence matters. 

The reason we are even discussing this is because of Jesus Christ. His resurrection defeated the power of death over us. He rose again defeating death. I am excited to talk about this topic because it gives me hope after death. Jesus raised from the dead a person named Lazarus which is recorded in the Bible. The narration goes that it was already after four days since Lazarus was laid in the tomb. Jesus came on the fourth day and saw his sisters weeping and wailing the loss of their brother. The finality of their brother’s absence brought in many questions among which was “Couldn’t he who opened the blind man’s eyes also have kept them man from dying?” This is a great testimony about Jesus where people have witnessed Jesus doing one after another miracles by healing people from all kinds of sickness.​

In human history the gods of religions are sought and worshipped because of the power they had to kill and destroy their enemies, but Jesus was powerful in giving life, raising people from the dead. Jesus assures Lazarus’ sisters that their brother will rise again. Martha, one of his sisters replied, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day” (John 11:23-24 Bible).  Jesus immediately calls Lazarus from outside the shut tomb and raises him from the dead. Now we learn two things here from this story, that there is a resurrection in the last day where all are going to rise again after our death and will live for eternity. All who believed in Jesus and received forgiveness from their sins will enter heaven to live with Jesus forever and ever. Some want to reject the claims of Jesus stating He is foreign God. You have a choice to believe or reject Him but what if this is true and you miss the truth all your life. Your beginning this year is the opportunity to know this Jesus Christ better and be assured of eternity with God. You may find a New Testament online Bible to read His story and all that He said and did.  To have a better beginning and a great end, Jesus is the only way to the true God. A way to find hope in this life and live with God with no end.

A New begining!

The world death rate statistics for 2025 shows that approximately 173,000 people have died each day which is 7,201 per hour, 120 per minute and 2 per second. If you are reading this blog, you are not part of those statistics. Does this excite you? Are you even thankful? The joy of entering yet another brand-new year is indeed a moment of joy that makes your heart glad and gives you a sense of contentment. 

Life is a grind for people who believe they are "Going along with time" and just surviving. The reason being our joy and excitement are mostly tied with external factors and situations which are temporary. There’s something terrifying about turning the page when you don’t know what’s written in the next. Your life story is familiar to the point you start thinking it’s the only one you’re allowed to live. The comfort of repetition, even when it hurts, feels safer than the uncertainty of starting over. Beginnings aren’t just about hope; they’re also about endings—letting go of a life you have already learned to survive. Sometimes, it’s not the fall we’re scared of. It’s the climb. The process. The unraveling. 

The unknown space is an unfamiliar territory for us, but not for a God who designed the universe and created us with a purpose. He holds your tomorrow and will sustain you. Your future contains more joy than your past. Don’t look at your past to determine your future. You can’t walk forward into your future looking backward. True misery can be found by being a yesterday person trying to get along in a tomorrow world. Though these sound motivational, if our hope is tied to a living God, then life can be completely different. 

"He will be the stability of your times". It is a powerful phrase from the Bible, specifically (Isaiah 33:6 Bible), meaning that in unstable, uncertain, or chaotic times, God (referred to as "He") provides steadfast security, salvation, wisdom, and knowledge, becoming the ultimate anchor for people's lives. It emphasizes finding firm ground not in worldly things, but in the divine presence and truth, offering hope and strong foundation amidst shifting circumstances. 

Now even the Bible verse can sound like a word of encouragement but let me assure you it is more than that. You can trust in all the promises Christ has made. He promised life, an abundant life. He promised to never leave nor forsake to those who put their trust on Him, He promised to carry our burden, and most importantly He also promised eternal life. This means an eternal life with Christ forever and ever. Never forget to realise this greatest fact of human history, that Christ conquered death and He rose from the grave. If the greatest problem - death can be decoded by Jesus, then we definitely have hope even after death, in Him. 

The Bible emphatically states, “The one who has the son (Jesus) has life. The one who does not have the son does not have life.” It doesn’t mean all who do not believe Christ are not going to exist in this earth. It means we cannot enjoy the abundant life He has promised.  Life is the total sum of life here on earth and in eternity. You can learn to know more about Him and find the true purpose for your existence.  May you live with this consciousness and live with all sobrieties to be a person God designed you to be in the year 2026.

Leaving behind the familiar for a newer lifestyle!

 

Familiarity is the quality of being well known; recognizability based on long or close association; close acquaintance with or knowledge of something. Does any of these give you that warm vague yes? That yes is the deeply ingrained feeling of Déja Vue, and our brain showing us where we stand with familiarity. You know the “I’ve been here before” experience—are all stored in our brain’s perirhinal cortex. The perirhinal cortex is the area of the brain where the old seems new again.

Fran Pedron the executive contributor of Brainz Magazine cites, “Many times, we fall into the grind, the discomfort, the self-abuse that sickens our quality of life, or the mediocrity that messes with our joy, abundance and stops us from living the life we always dreamed we would live. We just go through the motions or tread water, always remaining stagnant, feeling safe and secure in our domain of unhappiness, depression, low energy, and displeasure, while the life we desire passes right on by—leaving us where we choose to stay.”

Jeremiah Johnson founder of Altar Global cites,  “God is calling His people into territory they have never walked before, and the familiar will not take them where they are going.”   We have overtime become so comfortable with the familiar that we no longer wish to be part of the change. 

Let me point out to you an incident from the Bible the story of a blind man called Bartimaeus who was begging on the roadside of Jericho. The Gospel writer, Mark in the Bible, states that Jesus came to Jericho. As He was leaving Jericho with His disciples, a large crowd was pressing on Him. Among the crowd was the blind Bartimaeus begging from the roadside. He cried out in a loud desperate voice, "Rabbi (which means master), I want to regain my sight!" (Mark 10:51​ Bible). This phrase is generally interpreted to mean he lost his sight after birth, rather than being born with the condition. And now, his physical disability had forced him to beg for his survival. 

It was a large crowd but the way the writer puts it is dramatic. It states, ‘Jesus stopped and said, “Call him”’. And then Jesus asked a question, “what you want me to do for you?” I used to wonder why he had to ask this question knowing Bartimaeus’ physical condition. But probably to check if he really wants to be healed or if he is looking for some good alms. Probably Bartimaeus got so used to begging Jesus, wanted to check his real yearning. Immediately Bartimaeus exclaimed “I want to see”. And the story ends by stating that in one sentence Jesus totally transformed the condition of the blind beggar. Now, he could see. The Bible refers that Bartimaeus began to follow Jesus on the road (Mark 10:52 Bible).

Maybe you could relate your condition to this blind Bartimaeus. You are constantly dependent on external circumstances and you feel hopeless. If this is you, then you need to allow God to meet you in your point of desperation, in the point of your familiarity. Be assured your faith in Christ will change your entire situation. You don’t need to be a helpless prisoner of your condition. Jesus promised an abundant life, which is rich and fulfilling. What you know about your past hereafter will simply be a point of reference. God is releasing “new coordinates,” “new blueprints” and “new plans and purposes” for those ready to step forward. It is not about movement but transformation. May God bless you as you step into this New Year 2026 learning to know more about Jesus Christ and putting your trust in Him.

Christmas is about “Christ” not “Claus”

Billy Graham, a world-renowned evangelist exclaimed in one of his discourses,

“I’m afraid many people today have lost sight of the original meaning of Christmas. Instead, it has become more and more secular and commercialized, focusing mainly on gift-giving or holiday parties or family gatherings. These aren’t necessarily wrong—but far too often we lose sight of the true meaning of Christmas, and we fail to reflect on the greatest Christmas gift of all: God’s gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, for our salvation.” 

My dear friends Christmas is only about Jesus Christ, whose existence is recorded in history. He is God who came in human form to save sinners like you and me. In the historical records of the Bible one of the gospel writers called Luke puts this information in a logical sequence. You can refer to Luke 1:1-4 in the New Testament Bible. Luke was a physician and a writer who gathered information from eyewitness accounts to create an orderly and detailed narrative of Jesus's life and the early Christian church. He was likely a non-Jew, and his writings often highlight a message of salvation for all people, including the poor and marginalized. The Gospel of Luke was written likely between 60 and 90 CE. The earliest writing compared to any accounts recorded in human history. Jesus’ life is not fiction, mythology or a tale of imagination but an historical account of 40 different authors written in different time periods with one message - the salvation of mankind and the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. 

The greatest miracle of virgin birth is recorded as the greatest event in human history.  Mary conceives and gives birth to Jesus, a prediction fulfilled.  It is a direct fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy, primarily Isaiah 7:14 (Bible) was written around 740-700 BCE, where a virgin (Mary) conceives a son named Immanuel, meaning "God with us" as recorded in the Gospels of Matthew & Luke signifying God's miraculous intervention and fulfillment of His promise to be with His people. 

Today, Christmas is merchandized and made into commercial marketing strategy. The story of Jesus is about the hope for man’s sinful condition. But we notice that in all the history of mankind, man tried to reach God by doing all the goods works, practicing all kinds of rituals, finding religious places to smother his guilt incurred from all his sins, yet never found hope for life and assurance of salvation. Man assumes what he is doing for God is acceptable and will draw his favour. The problem of every culture, religion, race, country have their own narration of God. People judge and worship gods based on influential stories and powerful events but rarely based on facts.

People hardly take efforts to know the truth. Because if they did, then they would discover different accounts of the history of gods. We are all comfortable with a story of gods that are not much different from us humans.  Even if you have not read all about Jesus these few facts are the greatest proofs. Jesus’ birth was predicted 750 years ago; the virgin birth of Jesus is the greatest miracle and the prediction of Jesus about His death and resurrection happened. This means the story of Christmas is the story of Hope. If you read the Bible (New Testament) Jesus claimed to be “the way, the truth and the life”. Jesus added, “without me no one comes to the father.” You may want to learn more about Him during this Christmas season.

A glance that transformed!

The best glimpses are not so easy to get. People plan and travel to different parts of the world to experience picturesque scenes for fulfillment and satisfaction. Cheap thrills are usually accessible, but some priceless moments require our extraordinary effort. It’s not always money, though it can give a temporary relief. Soul satisfaction is beyond this.

 

Soul satisfaction is a deep, inner fulfillment found not in external achievements but in aligning with your true self, purpose, and values, and only through spiritual connection, meaningful relationships, passion, and inner peace. It leads to lasting contentment. This is all possible when you get to find the right glimpse of someone who is our source. 

 

I want to introduce a man named Zacchaeus in the Bible.  As Jesus was going to villages, towns and cities of Galilee teaching about the need of repentance by experiencing forgiveness of sins and introducing the eternal kingdom of God, He was also healing all kind of sickness by touching them. People we healed instantly. Bible records a large crowd was following Him to listen and most importantly, to be healed from their sickness.  Who would not want to have glimpse of this man Jesus who could instantly open the eyes of the blind, heal the deaf and the mute, raise people from the dead.

 

When Jesus entered a place called Jericho, Zacchaeus was excited to have a glimpse of this man. People today throng and go crazy to meet celebrities. Well, there are incidents we are aware where many have lost their lives in stampede to get a glimpse of their favorite celebrity. Here the case was different. The book of Luke states, 'He (Zacchaeus) was trying to see who Jesus was, but he was not able because of the crowd, since he was a short man. ' Luke 19:3.

 

As we read the passage it tells us that it was not easy for this man to have a glimpse of this person due to two significant reasons:

 

1.         Due to a large crowd (external situation)

2.      Zacchaeus was a short man. (Personal condition)

 

But this didn’t prevent Zacchaeus from seeing Jesus. The Bible records that Zacchaeus was trying to see Jesus, the savior of the world. He tried by running ahead and climbing up a sycamore tree to see Jesus, since He was about to pass that way. 

 

Zacchaeus was a "chief tax collector." People like him (tax collectors) were not held in high regard at that time. That is, he was a Jew who collected taxes on behalf of the Roman oppressors. So, he was a traitor to the political cause. In the rabbinical literature, tax collectors are akin to robbers. This means Zacchaeus was wealthy. How did a Roman tax collector get wealthy? By extortion and embezzlement. By taking advantage of the elderly, by exploiting the working poor, and by taking care of his associates. There's an unspoken assumption of corruption. Zacchaeus is a man who deserves our contempt. 

 

Now this man of questionable moral standing made all efforts to see Jesus. Behold, something historical happens. Jesus noticed His bold efforts. When Jesus reached that spot, He looked up, saw Zacchaeus, and told him to come down. He then invites himself to stay with Zacchaeus: "I must stay at your house today." Zacchaeus immediately climbs down and "welcomed Jesus gladly." What a privilege!

 

This encounter transformed the life of Zacchaeus forever. Meeting Jesus aroused the guilt of all his wrongdoings, and he makes a public confession that he will give half of his possession to the poor and was willing to pay back four times as much if he had extorted from any. There was immediate transformation. Jesus immediately acclaimed, “today salvation has come to this house”.

 

Encountering Jesus is not a religious experience but life transforming experience where one feels guilty about his personal sins and willing to set things right. It has nothing to do with fulfilling religious or ritual obligations. Today, people are still accepting Jesus and their lives are transformed forever. Whatever is your situation and condition I encourage you to try and behold the living resurrected Savior. This can be done by getting to know Him, believing the claims He made and willing to follow Him.  You can probably take an effort to know about Him this Christmas season and find meaning and fulfillment  to life.
